The Periodic Table of Elements

The Periodic Table was created by Dmitri Mendeleev, Russian chemist, it is a table that lists all the elements in order  from 1 to 111. An Element is a part of special characteristics. It lines them up by Atomic number (how many protons the atom has), like helium has two protons so its number two in the table. There is also the Atomic mass, which is right at the bottom of the element it tells you how much one atom of that element weighs. The atomic number and mass are different to each other the atomic number will always be on the top and the atomic mass will always be on the bottom of the element.

In the picture the the ones in green (He to Rn) are noble gases and also nonmetals with the purple. Noble gases are elements that their atoms con not combine with those of other elements. Non metals are poor conductors of electricity, melts in low temperature. The light blue, pink, and golden are metals. Metals are good conductors of electricity, and melt at high temperatures. Last but not least the elements in bluish/greenish color are Metalloids they have both metal and non metal characteristics.

Mass number is the number of protons and neutrons in the nuelues. for example the element H has 1 proton and 0 neutrons, since the atomic mass is 1.01. The row 17 going down is called Halogen. Halogen are any group of five that chemically related non metalic (includes elements F down through At).

In the first picture the number 2 stands for the number of protons.                               In the second picture the number 4.00260 stands for the mass of the atoms.
